4750 miles later, and a week ahead of schedule, I'm home. Ray ([livejournal.com profile] profkampf) is on his way back to LA now, after we called ahead and had [livejournal.com profile] qbear make us a mess of hot dogs to celebrate the end of our cross-country car trip.

Since Ray had to get back to LA to attend to job and other business, we abandoned the northernmost leg of our route, including Calgary, Vancouver and Seattle. Our apologies to all the friends we didn't get to see this time, especially our prospective hosts [livejournal.com profile] britbear and [livejournal.com profile] ponycub in Seattle, and Bela and Gordon in Vancouver.

Wild animals seen on this trip:

American bison ( and eaten, too)
Deer
Elk
Bunnies
Squirrels
Chipmunks
Pronghorn antelope
Prairie dogs

And this is where I now stand, so far as states visited. Added the Dakotas, Minn. and Wash. this trip. Only Hawaii to go.

At least we had a Prius. According to the GPS, we were getting about 44 mpg.

How was the leg from PDX to SF?

Steve - wow, you guys went (among many other places) right through one of my childhood family driving trip routes ...

Bismarck down to Pierre (my parents are from little towns east of Mobridge, SD), and then west to Rapid City (my hometown).

Glad to hear you're home safe and sound!

Wow indeed. Looks like they passed through Linton, where I spent my High School years. I also spent a few years growing up in Mobridge, Hague and Bismarck. Bismarck to Rapid City was our family driving trip route too as we had a ton of relatives in Deadwood.

Looks like a fantastic trip guys. I bet you had a blast!

We did, but we couldn't get out of Deadwood. A Rodeo Days parade closed downtown Deadwood, so we took another route, which took us right back to downtown Deadwood. Eventually we took a dirt road over a mountain to escape the area.

My folks are from Glenham (mom/Van Orman) and Java (dad/Wolf).

Random relatives from both sides still in those towns, Mobridge and Selby.

Fun factoid: I "ran into" one of my cousins (now in FL) on men4sexnow.

Small world! :)

North Daokta was flat and stuff. The highlight was the unexpected tater tots in my Mexican lunch.

A close look at the graphics indicate that you're actually in Mountainview?
