qbear just took me to the Slanted Door for a birthday lunch. We had imperial rolls, chicken in caramel sauce, Vietnamese eggplant and vanilla crème brulee, in a beautiful site overlooking the bay, the sky dotted with fluffy clouds.

I can see why the Slanted Door is rated one of the top Vietnamese restaurants in America, and why President Clinton used to eat there when he was in town. Easily the best meal I’ve had in a restaurant this year. I’m going to be smiling all afternoon. qbear is just the best husband ever.

Thanks, everyone, for your birthday wishes. I feel very blessed to have so many friends.

Isn't he just the best! I ate there once with tonymorg when he worked downtown. It was a long lunch, not because of excessive numbers of martinis but it was just kind of slow. Food was great though.

slanted door is very yummy, but it feels a little weird paying for food that i can get in on irving st. for 1/3 of the price. it's like paying $15 for a neiman ranch taco made with organic salsa. it's yummy but still just a taco. =^P
