I mentioned my Key West journey last time, but I forgot to mention this: one of the things my friend Steve and I have in common (and [livejournal.com profile] qbear as well) is that we love old bookstores. So when Steve and I were driving back from Key West and we came across a used bookstore by the side of the road in Marathon, Fla., we stopped, just to check it out.

At first glance, it appeared fairly crappy -- full of multiple copies of touristy books about the Florida keys, and we thought the store probably wasn't worth stopping for. But then I looked in the science fiction section, and amid all the Star Wars and series adaptations, I found these:

Jack Vance is one of my favorite science fiction authors, and his books are mostly out of print. I've seen old paperbacks of his go for, literally, tens of dollars. So coming across a huge load of his old work made the stop very worthwhile.

I already have some of these, but I couldn't resist cleaning the store out. At $1 a book, I can always give my duplicates to friends ... or maybe sell them, for literally tens of dollars.

"tens of dollars" LOL
