So I was telling [livejournal.com profile] qbear how I had a bad dream last night, that my Dad had gotten lost on a camping vacation and somehow drove the family station wagon over Niagara Falls, killing us all. I woke up when we went over the falls, shaken. I then saw that it was 4:30 a.m. and wasn't sure I would be able to get back to sleep.

"So, what did you do?" he asked.

"I held you for a while and then fell asleep."

"I'm very cuddlesome," he said, proudly.

"Yes, you are."

"Maybe that's what we should change our name too," he said. (Since our wedding is coming up next week, he's been floating the idea of changing our names to something we could share.) "We could change it to, 'the Teddybears.'"

"'Jack and Steve Teddybear. 'Look, the Teddybears are here.' 'Oh look, over there, it's those Teddybears.'"

After further discussion, we decided that maybe we could disguise it with an odd spelling. It'd still be pronounced Teddybear, but we could be Jack and Steve Tehdibaer.

And speaking of weddings, if you're around San Francisco City Hall next Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. ... that's when we're doing it. If you want to stop by and throw creampuffs, Jack says, aim for our mouths.

And Live Journal picnic this Saturday at 12 noon in San Francisco's Delores Park, too.

Yeah, I was immediately drawn to that. Unlike a lot of blends, it actually sounds like a legit name, even though the only meaning I could come up with is a game you play with skinny fish.

Why wasn't "Humpalicious" on the list?

I tried very hard to fight the urge, but I caved and clicked Tightywhitey. It was too hard to resist!

Seriously, though, how about Earl(e)?

When John & Yoko married, they took each other's name as a middle name, thus:

John Ono Lennon and Yoko Lennon Ono, so:

Jack Freitag Garceau and Steve Garceau Freitag...

Otherwise, what about Cuddlesome?

Maybe you two should ditch last names altogether and be like "Jack!" and "Steve!" like Cher and Madonna?

Obviously "Freiztag". Like the schoolyard game!

What's great is: it only LOOKS like it's just Steve's name. The "z" is actually from the Garceau/Garsseault side (those c's and ss's are obviously that casual, slightly buzzy French sound that is a "z" in English). And the final G is the G from Garceau too. ;-) It's hip and now for the 21st century, like their marriage itself.

I like the idea of Freiceau, if only for imagining the difficulty people are going to have figuring out how to pronounce it, just by reading it...

Come to think of it, I can't really decide which syllable should be stressed!

We don't change surnames here when we get married!

¿Por qué entonces tendrían que cambiarlos cada dos años, vosotros inconstantes?

So you would go for [livejournal.com profile] bigjohnsf's solution? "Freytag Garceau" and "Garceau Freytag"? ¿O sea "Garceau de Freytag"?

I vote for the Cuddlesomes, too.

It's certainly better than the Bothersomes or the Bickersons. Nobody likes to be around them.

No? How about the Rootjacks? Jackbeers? Or the Freitbears. Hmm. Maybe not that last one. Kind of sounds like a Halloween bear run.

I was looking for something more expressive....

like

Ohhhhhhhh Puuuuuuhhleeeeeeeeeeze"

But that would be problematic for some to spell when calling up for Customer Support.

So I went with Teddybears....

After all, everyone loves a Teddybear (and my first dog was named Teddy)

Can I bring you some little Custard Tarts from a great little dim sum place I found recently instead of Cream Puffs? So much tastier...
