Tangerine tomatoes and local gals
Aug. 26th, 2003 04:01 pmVery busy this week. Tonight we're off to Costco, to get The Two Towers* and whatever other DVDs catch our fancy, then a friend is coming over to hang out and, whether he knows it or not, watch me cook, because tomorrow night we're having a farewell dinner for our friend Big Tall Tim, who is moving to Dallas to be with his new boyfriend. **
I'm making chicken cacciatore, which is even better on the second day, so I'm making it today so it'll be better tomorrow. Only problem is that Tim's boyfriend doesn't like mushrooms, which I love. (What's his problem? Is he not a fun guy?) I may just keep the mushrooms in larger chunks than usual, so he can eat around them. I'll serve the cacciatore on pasta, probably farfale, but
qbear is on Atkins, so he'll get his straight up. On the side I'll be serving tomato-basil-mozzarella salad, using the luscious tangerine and black brandywine tomatoes I acquired today at the Ferry Building farmers' market.
Thursday night we're off to see the new movie Lost In Translation with Bill Murray, directed by Sofia Coppola. The movie has received rave reviews on the festival circuit and I like Murray a lot, so I'm excited and happy. This is a special advance preview at a fancy screening room here in town, and we're thinking that local gal Coppola might be there herself (or even daddy Francis Ford). It pays to have connections in the bear community, and we've seen a lot of great movies through the years thanks to Harry Lit and his Castrobear Presents promotions. (We've also seen some real stinkers, like Evolution.)
(The movie Groundhog Day, with Bill Murray, fascinates me . . . One of these days I'll have to write about why. )
Friday our friend Gregg is coming over, and we'll probably order in some Chinese. Gregg was just in Hawaii (where we've never been) and will have lots of stories to share about his adventures in the sugar cane fields there.
Saturday starts the long weekend! Hurray! We most likely will try to get to the beach, since we didn't go last weekend, when the temperature was in the 80s. I need to get a tan, so I can mark "Get tan" off my to-do list.
--------------------------
* Yes, we know a fancier extended version of The Two Towers is coming out later this fall. We'll be getting that one too.
** Big Tall Tim is 6'6", but our friend Timzilla is 6'8".
bluedevilsf and
baraksf are examples of local, non-giant Tims.
