So I came home from the gym, after stopping at the grocery store, and told [livejournal.com profile] qbear that I'd bought something for him at the market. He would be given five chances to guess what it was.

"Is it meat?" he asked. No, I said.

"Is it ... parsnips?"

Damn! I guess it's true, the longer you are with someone, the less you can surprise them. I currently have a big pot of chicken-and-vegetable soup cooking on the stove, since it's been such a gray, chilly, foggy weekend.

Speaking of the gym, I was working out when I heard on the sound system, Blur's "Girls & Boys":

Girls who are boys
Who like boys to be girls
Who do boys like they're girls
Who do girls like they're boys
Always should be someone you really love

I know the entire lyrics are a bit withering, but the last line of the chorus seems oddly appropriate today, the first day of legal, state-authorized same-sex weddings in California. Congratulations to those among you (like [livejournal.com profile] notdefined and [livejournal.com profile] mh58) who will be getting married in the days to come. I'll let you know our own wedding plans once we make them ... and in the meantime, the stock footage of our 2004 wedding is getting heavy play today, so look for us.

Last night we watched HGTV's Design Star, which is much better than that decorating reality show with the "See you later, decorator," send-off. One contestant, Matt, is just an adorable little cubbie type, and we hope he wins. He can build our bookshelves anytime!

Parklife.

You should have brought him fennel. Mebbe he wouldn't have guessed. Happy summer! ;)

I think we've had fennel more recently than parsnips. But both those vegetables only make very rare appearances in our house.

I wound up watching Design Star as I finished off my Reese’s Twister from Foster’s Freeze. Clive Pearse is nearly as useless here as he is on the repulsive Designed to Sell. Matt was the main reason I watched, and he does deserve to win if only for the clever “four-poster bed made up of a bunch of little beds” idea. Plus he’s so gay! (I know, what man on that show isn’t?)

I am liking this season (and Matt), but as progbear intimates Ms. Pearce is really showing her officious-queen feathers (he lives part-time in PS and is hard to miss).

Sorry to have missed you on Skype the other day -

"Is it ... parsnips?"

Okay.. if you came home from the supermarket with something for me.. and it turned out to be PARSNIPS, you'd SO be sleeping on the couch.
