December catchup

It's been a rather hectic holiday season. We started out December with a trip to Disneyland with
sunbeam_bears, where we faced the shame of bottoming out our boat on It's A Small World ride, due to our excess poundage. (And then it turns out that Disney employees routinely give meal vouchers to patrons who are so humiliated … but we didn't get bupkis!) Anyway, it was a fun weekend getaway and we even got to see
e_ticket. And for all the times they had been there, John and Frank had never really seen Disneyland in the rain, either.

The following weekend my mom visited with her friend, and it's all supposition at this point, but it looks like Steve Has Two Mommies. At the very least, my mom has a close friend who dotes on her, which isn't bad at her age. Anyway, I don't really want to go into the details on here, so ask me about them if you see me …
After that, we had a few dinners and holiday-get-togethers, like having local guys George and Eric over for dinner, with the sadly-no-longer-on-LJ bearpiper, and
keanubear and Greg from up the street, who watched Christmas DVDs with us and had pie. By the time Christmas actually arrived, we were sick to death of the holiday season, and by the embarrassing amount of Christmas presents underneath the tree (we wrap up everything we buy, from Nov. 1 on)(the milk and eggs don't survive too well).
Christmas morning, we had
foodpoisoningsf over for brunch (panettone French toast, bacon, fruit salad), and Christmas evening, we had other local friends (including
shprdbear and
design_bear) over for prime rib, ham, roasted potatoes, derby pie, pudding pie, etc … the refrigerator was groaning with the weight of all the food in it. (Or the water filter might just need to be changed.)
Other holiday outings: dinner out with
fogbear and
putzmeisterbear … showing
pulsecub around town, spending some time with
joebehrsandiego and
enhydrasf and
bigreddee, and running into
heypyro … seeing the Kinsey Sicks at the Herbst Theater, and running into
sfopanda and
sfobear … lunch with
bigfurrycub … and having the no-longer-on-LJ Gregg and Jim(mytruepassion and sflonestar) over for our yearly holiday dinner. Our Christmas presents this year were a bunch of DVDs and books and CDs and a GPS and a "Monopoly For Girls" game, but we never seem to get what we really want … real estate.
In other news, I got all A's in my fall classes at City College … I won my appeal, so I'm not required to look for work while I'm in school … and classes start again in two weeks. This spring, I'll be taking a heavier course load: PHP, Javascript, MySQL, PL/SQL, and Intro to Apache/Advanced Apache. As usual, I'm reading ahead so I don't get stressed out by falling behind.
And speaking of falling behind, I know I've been lax in updating my journal here. It just seems that when I have classwork to do, writing for LJ makes me feel guilty, like I'm avoiding studying. I should be able to post more now that the holidays are over, and classes haven't yet begun.
I've also worked up my first personal web site: bearcooks.com. Been meaning to do this for years, but now that I've taken an HTML course, there was no reason not to. It's fairly rudimentary, but let me know what you think.
