Crap!

The Ferry Building is on fire. Second floor, above the Marketbar. I was just there on Tuesday with foodpoisoningsf at the Farmer's Market.

I'm two blocks away and we can smell the smoke in my office. Hope the fire is contained soon.

UPDATE: Just walked over to see what was going on. Still a lot of fire engines and trucks around, but the fire appears to be out. No visible signs of damage to the structure. Whew!

I love that building, I ate at Marketbar with hotelbearsf when I was there a couple of months ago. It is such a great part of town. Glad to hear it's okay.

I'll never forget the tower of the Ferry Building immediately after the Loma Prieta. The flagpole was askew and the clock had stopped at 5:04.

We could smell the smoke too, until we got an email from the building manager saying they had closed the "dampers" on the fresh air vents... then we could just smell someone cooking curry in the break room.

Did your flaming on Tuesday leave a smouldering ember?

I've been looking for it on sfgate.com, and finding nothing. Probably the fire was very minor but just put out a lot of smoke.
