A lazy weekend all around, with [livejournal.com profile] qbear mostly recovering from a brief illness last week. We did attend a wedding of one of Jack's co-workers Saturday,a big Chinese-American wedding in Oakland with a fancy wedding banquet afterwards:

Course 1: appetizers: slices of roasted pork, roasted baby squid, seaweed salad, jellyfish, barbecued pork
Course 2: shark's fin soup
Course 3: scallops, shrimp and calamari in a fried noodle nest
Course 4: crab cakes with crab claw
Course 5: pigeon
Course 6: mushrooms and broccoli in a dry scallop sauce
Course 7: lobster
Course 8: black bass
Course 9: fried rice with shrimp and pork
Course 10: wedding cake

All in all, the best food I have ever had at a wedding!* Although the beverages were limited to apple cider soda, green tea, Budweiser, and on each table, a big bottle of cognac.

-----
* OK, I would never order shark's fin soup in a restaurant. It's revolting, the way sharks are hunted for their fins and the rest just thrown back into the ocean.**

** OK, the way most seafood is caught is disgustingly wasteful. Knowing this, I still enjoyed the dinner.

you'd think being born and raised in SF i'd like seafood. At that wedding I would have been loading up on Pork and budweiser.

I would have been pretty full right after the crab cakes. The appetizers sounded really good, but I'm a little scared by the shark fin soup. Did each bowl have a big fin sticking out of it like Jaws? HeeHee!

if you didn't know it was sharks fin in the soup, you would never recognize it. the fins are cut into thin strips that have a firm, slightly rubbery texture. think very al dente angel hair pasta.

It does sound like a good banquet! Nice picture of you, too, Rock-o. :-)
