Well.....though there are those who dispute the existence of a sexual relationship, Cary and Randy shared a beach house at one time.....looked pretty chummy, know-what-I-mean, know-what-I-mean.
Then, Franklin Pangborn was EVERYBODYS favorite pansy in the 30's and 40's, George Cukor, et al....(never knew about Marjorie Main!)
So, in answer to your question (I digress a bit, now and then) it's more of a beautiful, tongue-in-cheek homage to a film that should have been.
