Relatively quiet weekend. Nothing much on Saturday except for watching a bunch of Monty Python, but on Sunday [livejournal.com profile] profkampf and [livejournal.com profile] poohbearjim came over for Pancakes Barbara (as referenced in The Women -- right, [livejournal.com profile] red_goatee?), bacon and fruit salad. We sat around talking until mid-afternoon, and after they left, [livejournal.com profile] ibubtoo showed up, bearing homemade chicken soup, Acme bread, and the world's largest chocolate eclair. Thanks very much, Cory -- when you're confined to the couch, as I have been for six friggin' weeks, visits from friends are very much appreciated and are easily the high points of the day. If there's anything I've learned from my confinement to the couch here, it's to treasure your friends, especially the ones who make the effort to visit you when you're incapacitated. Going that extra mile is what separates the friends from the acquaintances.

We've decided that you are indeed milking this for too long. We're going to have you do jumping jacks and cartwheels when I visit next week.

You've been warned ;-)

Okay, I nearly had a tear in my eye and a tug at my heart until I read "milking it missy"....then everything changed!

What I thought was fascinating was that "milking it, missy" has an icon ;-)

Do I really have to fly all the way over there and play canasta with you to remain on the good list? :) Because I will, don't tempt me...

Oh no, I'm only talking about locals!

You are so right!

When [livejournal.com profile] double_ohsteven was at his worst and I had to start my externship and leave him alone, we sure found that out. I know that it's an inconvenience, but if you have to walk by the house anyhow, at least stop by to say hello! Some people!!

I don't want to lay a guilt trip on my friends, but it's so easy to stop by and say hello, that I have a hard time understanding why some people can't do that, or haven't done that.

A friendly "how are you doing" phone call can be just as welcome, too. Just something to show that "as a friend, your pain and distress alarms me."

"As a friend, your face and dress alarm me." Oh, I misread that.

I think the least we can do as friends is allow you to milk your temporary disability for all it's worth. Isn't there some online site where guys into the disabled, paraplegics, etc., go? Think of the possibilities...

[sound of tiny violin playing sad melody]

We look forward to your recovery.

So true. That's one reason why I feel such little kinship with most in San Francisco these days. When I was going through rough times, I got more support from out-of-towners.

next dinner party is time for limestone salads, as long as you "get the cards out on time, ok?"

God I hope the soup was good...
