Walk on by
Dec. 7th, 2008 04:40 pmCongratulations to
backawayslowly for the success of Star Wars: Live, which we took the visiting Pete (
quirkstreet) to on Friday evening. It was a hoot and a half, with many more laughs than One Man Star Wars Trilogy, which we also saw recently.
(Yes, we do go to see live theater, but only if it is Star Wars-related.)
Anyway, the show was funny and clever, and Dave rocked his dual roles of Darth Vader and Chewbacca, who, oddly, were never onstage at the same time. If you're in San Francisco and a big fan of Star Wars-themed theater, and who isn't, you owe it to yourself to see this show.

Around the time Owen (
oac) visited this past autumn, I started taking some walks around the city, as a way to exercise, get out in the fresh air, and generally improve my outlook on things. While he was here, Owen and I walked up to the top of Mount Davidson, to Stern Grove, to Golden Gate Park, etc.

Today I took my longest hike yet: an 8- mile round trip from our house (marked with the red X) down to the Castro, over to the Fillmore Center to my gym (where I worked out), and then back via Haight Ashbury and the northern and western sides of Twin Peaks.
(While on Haight, I took the opportunity to stop at Amoeba Records and pick up Japancakes' Loveless, a rootsy instrumental cover album of the original album by My Bloody Valentine, which Pete had turned me on to when he was here. He played me some snippets on his iPod and it just filled me with glee, so I had to have it.)
The walks are working, as exercise ... I'm gone from a post-broken leg high of 248 lbs. down to 218 lbs. (We're also on Weight Watchers and eating healthier, so no doubt that's helping, too.)
