Another busy week ...
Aug. 15th, 2008 06:59 pmBeen a busy week for us. Had dinner Monday with
jimmyadventure and Gregg at Chouchou, a local French restaurant, where Jim and Gregg are such regulars that the owner came out when we arrived and kissed us all on the cheek. Then, after dinner, because it was Gregg's birthday, the owner comped us some desserts (apricot tart , chocolate tart) and a round of kir royales. It's good to be a recognized as a regular …
The day before, we'd seen a matinee performance of The Drowsy Chaperone starring Georgia Engel (of Mary Tyler Moore Show fame) and our friend Cliff Bemis, who is looking more and more like Mike Ditka. We loved the show and laughed until our sides ached, but when we had lunch with Cliff later in the week, he told us that the producers regretted the title, because it evidently caused confusion among the audience. The Droopy Chauffeur? The Dopey Companion? Evidently the public can't keep it straight, and box office has been not quite what were expected, which is a shame, because it's a ridiculously entertaining show.
Here's the three of us having lunch at Harvey's in the Castro:

Last night we went to Kabuki Hot Springs, where we ran into
kiltbear,
redbackfur,
gregorbehr and Steve, who's not on LJ but is a friend of
liquidwayno's. As usual, we left feeling very clean and serene. Oddly, someone who was leaving just as we arrived later messaged online and asked if that was me, and was quite excited to find out that it was. I have a fan!
Had Dave and
shprdbear over Wednesday for dinner (baked ziti, roasted broccoli and carrots, blueberry pie) and to watch Primeval, a dinosaurs-somehow-arrive-in-present-day show that Dave was quite keen to see, because he doesn't get BBC America. It was good to spend time with them, but I was a little disappointed in the program -- a cross between Stargate and Jurassic Park, it was too choppy and too predictable. But we'll watch it again to see if it gets any better.
Since Jack's birthday is tomorrow, I made him a dinner tonight that he was wanting – Rachael Ray's Mac and Cheese Dog Casserole, basically macaroni and cheese (wagon wheels -- we're out of elbows) flavored with ketchup, mustard and beer, garnished with little browned hot dogs. He loved it. Here I am, serving it:

I'd show the uncropped photo, including my new glasses, but Jack said that the obvious rolling of my eyes made me look too snarky.
